Sailplane

Great photo by Sara of a sailplane buzzing the launch at Mt Seven. Golden is one of THE places in Canada to take a tandem sailplane ride. The sailplane is towed up behind a powered airplane, released and then flies the thermals with incredible speed. It must be a rush. Tandem hangliding and tandem paragliding flights are also available from Mt Seven.

Mt Seven Paragliding

Possibly the most well known paragliding and hangliding site in Canada is Mt Seven. Mt Seven is the peak to the south of the Trans-Canada Highway above Golden. Many Canadian non-motorized distance records have been set from this site. The Willi Muller Memorial Competition is held in Golden on the first weekend of August. Pilots from all over North America and the world come to fly on thermals down the Columbia Valley. The photo has been taken on a paraglider from about 11,000 ft above Mt Seven looking south.
